There is no shortage of abandoned buildings and homes here, even in the "nicer" neighborhoods like Caminho das Árvores and Pituba.
Some fall victim to squatters who can enter and live in a property for some time and then claim it as theirs because they are occupying it. 
Still others remain untouched except for the signs spray painted here and there and the graffiti added some time afterwards. 
These places have been abandoned since I moved here, but perhaps now they will find an international buyer since I am posting their photos on the site (*smirk*).
